consulting

LinkState Consulting Services comprises a team of specialist technical consultants that focus on the Design, Implementation, Integration and Migration of Infrastructure Technologies, centered largely around Microsoft products.

The experience of the consulting team is however not limited to Microsoft technologies
but encompasses a broad spectrum of capabilities across all mainstream technologies,
including Microsoft, Novell, Unix, VMware and Open Source Systems (Linux etc.)

Systems Integration

Systems Integration is defined as “the connecting of disparate technologies in order to allow and facilitate the flow of data”. LinkState assists many of its clients to connect systems and integrate technology. This is done in order to streamline business processes or make data more easily available, by developing an integration layer and/or using commercial platforms such as Microsoft BizTalk.

Identity Management

Identity Management refers primarily to the collation of information about people from multiple different sources into a single trusted repository of information.  For example, HR related information would be sourced from an HR system or systems while telephone numbers would be sourced from the telephone management system etc.  Once sufficient information can be gathered about a person, further automation is possible such as account provisioning in various systems as well as synchronising this information of other systems that would use the information but cannot maintain it.   Identity Management has several benefits to organisations including (but not limited to):

  • Account provisioning and de-provisioning as determined by joiners and leavers in an organisation
  • Password synchronisation – people often have multiple accounts and should be synchronised when a password is changed or reset
  • White page management – sourcing information from multiple sources ensures that, for example, the Exchange GAL is updated when a job title is updated in the HR system.

As with migrations, Identity Management is more about process than a particular technology.  LinkState has been involved in Identity Management solutions using Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager, Tivoli Identity Manager as well as bespoke solutions that implement Identity Management principals.  Leveraging knowledge of migrations and integration, LinkState is well poised to handle complex data mapping and transformation as well as identify a phased road map for the implementation of identity management.

Cross Platform Migrations

LinkState has been involved in many migrations primarily to Microsoft systems.  These include Exchange to Exchange (Intra- and Inter-forest), Active Directory to Active Directory (Intra- and Inter-forest), GroupWise to Exchange, Lotus Notes to Exchange and Novell File & Print to Microsoft.  While 3rd party tools exist to handle much of the automation around these migration scenarios, the key to a successful migration is more about process – managing change.  LinkState has performed migration using these 3rd party tools as well as native tools authored in-house to either reduce cost or meet custom requirements not normally addressed in these tools.  An example being the migration of GroupWise rules to Exchange. Migrations are complex projects and an in-depth knowledge of the process and internal workings of migration tools enables LinkState to successfully deliver projects in this arena.

Application Packaging

Application Packaging is the process of taking an application and preparing it for automated deployment in a managed desktop environment. LinkState provides application packaging as either a contract, ad-hoc or full outsource service. Many organisations wishing to reduce desktop support costs are implementing software distribution technologies such as Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager to perform automated software distribution and centrally manage other desktop management related tasks. LinkState Technologies provide flexible packaging services that endeavor to assist clients to package and test applications more cost effectively. Our approach is always based on best practices and industry standards.
Application Provisioning focuses on providing a software delivery mechanism to users for applications. This includes deployment technologies such as Microsoft SCCM and Microsoft App-V.
Many organisations are looking at migrating their desktops to new operating systems. This can often be a challenge if the applications being used by the organisation are not supported on the new OS or have not been tested. The more applications, the greater the impact on the migration project. LinkState assists organisations with their application portfolio to assess and remediate these applications in order for them to be easily migrated or virtualised.

AdminStudio® Suite

AdminStudio

AdminStudio® Suite powers an enterprise’s Application Readiness process, streamlining and accelerating migration to Windows 7 and 8, virtualization of desktop and server applications, mobile application management and day-to-day application packaging operations. It removes a major barrier to cloud adoption by automating the assessment, conversion and publishing of multiple virtual formats to both physical and cloud environments.

AdminStudio provides enterprise IT teams, including the MSI packager, with the most advanced software packaging tools to efficiently prepare reliable packages for desktop and server application deployment with a complete set of automated MSI packaging, customization, testing and management reporting capabilities. AdminStudio is the foundation of AdminStudio Suite, which also includes the following add-on packs: Application Compatibility Pack to automate testing for Windows 7 and 8, Internet Explorer and Windows Server, Virtualization Pack for preparation and management of virtual packages and Mobile Pack for managing Apple iOS and Windows Store apps.
